A Brazilian woman whose short, pink dress caused a near riot at a private college and led to her expulsion will be allowed to return to class.

The private Bandeirante University backed down Monday on its decision to expel 20-year-old Geisy Arruda following a flood of negative reaction in a nation where skimpy attire is common. Videos of students ridiculing her and making catcalls Oct. 22 made her an Internet sensation.

Punch-Drunk: I Know What Manny Did Last Summer

Of course, like any other Manny Pacquiao fan, I am excited about the pound-for-pound champion’s bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas against Puerto Rican welterweight champion, Miguel Cotto. But apart from excitement, there’s another feeling that’s coming over me when I see Pacquiao step into the ring one more this Saturday night (Sunday morning, Manila time): relief.

See, sixth months have passed since he knocked out Ricky Hatton, and Pacquiao certainly kept himself busy over that period. I run a sports blog, so I’ve had to keep track of every little thing that the Pacman has done since the Hatton fight last May.

Pacman shows RP ‘small but mighty’

HOLLYWOOD — Manny’s time has come.

The Filipino ring icon, generally regarded as the world’s pound-for-pound champion, graces the cover of Time Magazine Asia edition—where he is featured in a five-page story—that will hit the US and global magazine stands this weekend.

Not only is he the first Filipino to grace the weekly magazine’s cover since the late former President Corazon C. Aquino, regarded as the icon of democracy, but he is also the first boxer in 20 years to be accorded the honor, after Mike Tyson.

Space hotel says it’s on schedule to open in 2012

BARCELONA – A company behind plans to open the first hotel in space says it is on target to accept its first paying guests in 2012 despite critics questioning the investment and time frame for the multi-billion dollar project.

The Barcelona-based architects of The Galactic Suite Space Resort say it will cost 3 million euro for a three-night stay at the hotel, with this price including an eight-week training course on a tropical island.

During their stay, guests would see the sun rise 15 times a day and travel around the world every 80 minutes. They would wear velcro suits so they can crawl around their pod rooms by sticking themselves to the walls like Spiderman.

Philippines rejects ransom demand for Irish priest

MANILA (AFP) – – The Philippines on Sunday rejected a two million dollar ransom demand by the kidnappers of an elderly Irish Catholic priest in the troubled south but said it would continue efforts to ensure his release.

Paying money to free Father Michael Sinnott, 79, went against state policy, a spokesman for President Gloria Arroyo, Cerge Remonde, told AFP.

“We will do everything to ensure his safe release,” Remonde said. “We will, however, stick to the international policy of paying no ransom.”

Palace sorry for changing Nov 27-28 holidays

MANILA – The Arroyo administration apologized Monday for declaring the Muslim festival of Eid’l Adha on November 27 and 28 as national holidays and then changing the proclamation to say that the holidays will only be observed in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said President Arroyo amended the proclamation after the country’s manufacturing sector appealed the decision.
