Ping gave hit order on Dacer – Mancao

MANILA, Philippines – Former police senior superintendent Cezar Mancao has named Sen. Panfilo Lacson as the mastermind in the murders of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito eight years ago.

This was among the allegations made by Mancao in an affidavit he signed last Feb. 14 in Broward County, Florida in the United States, reliable sources revealed.

The sources disclosed the contents of the affidavit as preparations are being made for Mancao’s expected arrival in the country following his extradition from the US.

Among others, sources revealed Mancao was present when Lacson allegedly gave the hit order to then police senior superintendent Michael Ray Aquino.

Obama, Arroyo back controversial defense treaty

WASHINGTON (AFP) – - President Barack Obama and Philippine President Gloria Arroyo on Friday both backed a mutual defense treaty which is under fire following the US refusal to hand over a marine convicted of rape.

Obama and Arroyo spoke by telephone and also discussed climate change, education and anti-terrorism efforts, the White House said in a statement.

“The President called President Arroyo of the Philippines this morning,” the statement said.

“They reaffirmed their commitment to the long-standing US-Philippines alliance, including the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), which remains critical to the bilateral relationship and our strategic interests.”

Manny steps up training sans Roach

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao can always get away with a few more rounds when Freddie Roach is not around.

The other day at the Wild Card Gym, what was supposed to be short, nice and easy four rounds of mitts with Buboy Fernandez turned out to be an almost non-stop 10-round session.

Roach is in England to be in the corner of his other protégé, Amir Khan, who takes on Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera on March 14 at the MEN Center.

OFWs now under shorter work week

MANILA, Philippines – Even overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are now working less than five days a week.

The recruitment industry today reported many factories in Taiwan employing Filipino workers have adopted flexible working scheme to save jobs.

Jackson Gan, Pilipino Manpower Agencies Accredited to Taiwan (PILMAT) president, said Taiwanese firms adopted the policy under the supervision of the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA).

“Foreign workers, including Filipinos are benefiting from the policy because they have work and are guaranteed to receive their monthly salary even if they are reporting for work less than what was stipulated in their contracts,” Gan pointed out.
