PDEA on alert vs seedless marijuana

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is on the lookout for a new and more potent variety of marijuana, which authorities think may have found its way into the country.

The agency is yet to confirm whether or not sensemilia, the seedless variety, is already in the market although they have been receiving reports about it.

PDEA Drug Museum curator Gerry Magpoc said the new variety is more dangerous because it is “seven times more potent” than the so-called “buntot pusa” variety.

He explained that sensemilia carries a higher tetrahydrocannabinol content, one of the active ingredients of marijuana leaves that come from the cannabis sativa plant.

Hatton has mixed emotions over bout with Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – British boxing champion Ricky “the Hitman” Hatton had expressed mixed emotions over negotiations of his fight with Manny “the Pacman” Pacquiao, according to www.telegraph.co.uk.

In a press conference held at Manchester, England, Ricky said that he was delighted at the prospect of fighting Manny.

“…Previously we had spoken to Bob Arum [Pacquiao's promoter] and we’d agreed on the deal. I was delighted. I was jumping through hoops,” related Ricky.

However, after Ricky’s camp discussed the terms with Bob Arum, the deal went from on to off, and then on again. He only wanted a clear fight deal, yet, at the rate negotiations were going, it seemed to be elusive. Ricky’s mood changed—from delighted to devastated.

OFWs in Nordic countries spared from global crunch

OSLO, Norway – Filipino workers in the Nordic countries are spared from the effects of the global economic crisis, the Philippine Embassy in Norway said on Thursday.

“We have not received reports of Filipino workers from Norway, Denmark and Iceland being retrenched and sent back to the Philippines due to the global economic crisis,” Consul General Evelyn Austria-Garcia said.

“This is not very much a problem in Norway as the country is one of those with a strong financial base,” she explained, adding that “under the Norway’s labor laws, workers who are retrenched have the right to apply for unemployment pay equivalent to the salary they are receiving as long as they do not find another job.”

Rowley is on trial in Superior Court in Victorville for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, stalking, burglary, and false imprisonment.

The 26-year-old woman survived six stab wounds and the punctured breast implants were repaired.

Floyd Sr warns Hatton: Forget booze, parties

Floyd Mayweather Sr. is “pretty sure” he’d be back as Ricky Hatton’s trainer when the pride of Manchester stakes his IBO super-lightweight crown against Manny Pacquiao on May 2.

And if he does, the flamboyant trainer and father of Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather Jr. might just impose the same rules on Hatton: no booze, no junk food, no parties, no late nights.

If Floyd Sr. could have his way, Hatton should have “nothing but boxing” in his mind when he starts preparing for the big fight in Las Vegas.
